This catalogue was published to accompany the Bodleian Library’s definitive 2025 retrospective of the work of photographer, Paddy Summerfield. Curated by Alex Schneideman and Paddy’s wife, Patricia Baker-Cassidy.
The catalogue includes 68 photographs by Summerfield as well as images by Sian Davey, Vanessa Winship, Alex Schneideman, Jem Southam, Patricia Baker-Cassidy, Norman Mcbeath and John Goto.
In addition there are essays contributed by; Richard Ovenden, Jem Southam, Patricia Baker-Cassidy and Alex Schneideman.
The catalogue focuses on the main published bodies of work (Mother and Father, The Oxford Pictures, Empty Days, The Holiday Pictures and Home Movie) as well as other and previously unpublished yet significant photography that combine to give a definitive overview off this important artist’s contribution to the history of documentary photography.
Each body of work is accompanied by an explanatory text by Baker-Cassidy.
